At Localist, ESG responsibilities are built into how we work every day. They guide our decisions and support our mission to champion smaller local businesses, promote local economies and connect great local food with customers. This approach helps us deliver on our purpose while protecting the planet and supporting communities.

What ESG means to us.

ESG is not a separate initiative. It is built into our business. From reducing food miles to promoting local economies, we take practical steps that make a difference. These actions help us operate responsibly while creating value for suppliers and customers.

Environmental

We help reduce food miles by connecting local suppliers with major customers in their communities. We work to reduce waste wherever possible and monitor energy use at our own sites, which are powered by renewable energy. Through the Localist Buying Club, we offer renewable energy options to suppliers. We track our carbon footprint and send no waste to landfill, recycling everything we can and donating office equipment for reuse.

Social

Everything we do is to champion smaller local businesses and promote local economies by driving local spend and providing local jobs. We support charitable initiatives and match fund donations for colleagues who support local charities. Every colleague can take one day a year to volunteer for a local cause. We have policies that allow colleagues to balance their working lives and provide access to an Employee Assistance Programme for physical and mental health support. We have a zero-tolerance policy for modern slavery and a commitment to acting ethically and with integrity.

Governance

Our values of Courage, Confidence and Collaboration shape how we work as a team. We report performance regularly and transparently across the business. Every colleague has clear objectives and understands how their role supports our long-term strategy. We pay at least the National Living Wage and maintain Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation for cyber security. ESG performance is reviewed monthly at Executive level to keep it at the heart of our business.
